Recession…Recession… cries everywhere…Pick up any news paper, read any interview of a company’s top honcho, check out any international business or news website, talks of losses, layoffs and slow down are rampant. Everyone knows something about it and everyone knows for sure that IT IS HERE!!!
Being a student of Finance this term assumes all the more relevance for me not only as a subject of interest but also due to its direct impact on my job prospects. What i have found interesting is that although all my colleagues and friends from my institute and in other institutes identify this phenomenon and have a lot of data on this but amazingly most of them do not accept it inside their hearts…they still have the same thoughts that they had before joining this MBA course. They still compare their success with the profiles and packages their senior batches have got even after all these news being read and also presented by them in different ways almost every day!
They are not able to accept that these are different times and thus the mental make-up and also related strategies there-by needs to change here too. Big companies and financial Institutions are falling apart all around them but they still are in a denial mode and are hoping for the similar conditions as one or two years before.
The idea here is to try harder than what their seniors may have done and also be a lot more flexible in accepting what the current scenario has to offer them because in any case this is a temporary phase and things will look up sooner than later. But waiting for things to be fine is not a wise thing to do…so grab the best among the available opportunities that comes your way and get started…Recession will die its natural death and you WILL get “your thing” surely tomorrow if not today.
So wear that fabulous smile of yours and start working towards it.

colleagues definitely need a psychologist
No they don’t… they just need a small change in their mindset…In any case one doesn’t take out a sword when a pin would suffice!!!
I too egg-ree gopalu!!
best idea is to go for a degree course for 2 years or so.. in this time of recession… so don’t worry be happy..
hmm… firstly, appreciating your efforts for jotting a great pain in just a few lines. well, if you ask me, i would say, If there is a problem, there comes worry, then panic, and finally pain. The mindset which you want ppl to have is not as easy as writing a few words. Majority of us have entered with a dream of ambitions, and today if some recession is eroding that dream, it is a worry and that follows the cycle. Would wearing a smile solve the erosion or rather reduce the erosion.
Well, i hope you have started looking out for opportunities. The way companies are desingning packages, at least in my case, i would only say, this is exploiting the recession. We understand the job cuts, and difficult times. would that really mean i start working at 1.2 levels…!! this is the panic… so suggest why and what for a smile should come out!! Done with Red tapism of 2 years and now gearing out in a world where companies are exploiting us…!! are we so bad??
Thanks a lot madhuri for raising a very relevant question here…this would certainly take this post further…
I fully agree to the unfortunate fact that companies are exploiting the recession and also agree that wearing a smile would not solve the erosion or reduce the erosion. But then nobody in the world has ever gained by just worrying or moaning in pain..A smile would not cost anything but can get us a lot..who likes to hire a frustrated and spent out person anyways..will you??
The point here is that we are not at a position where we can bargain a lot but this situation is not permanent…there is a pain and that should be dealt with courageously with a smile on the face and good times will come to us faster than those who would go on worrying!!!
Hi,
Good efforts and ur approach is pretty good. As we all know that the way one approaches the problem often determines the solution, ur approach will lead to the solutions in shorter span.
once again, good effort keep moving ahead and wish to see more posts time to time.
Thanks a lot sir…Coming from you the words seem all the more sweeter and motivates me further…Thanks for the encouragement again sir.
Laughter is the best medicine in such times. And music is a close second. Nothing like the soothing effect of a Rock Song (pun intended). Thus, the latest song by Zeest, yes yes the BC SUTTA band from Pakistan, has released a new song. This time on the “FINANCIAL FUCK UPS and BROKEN HEARTED PEOPLE”, in their own words. You can download the song here. or

Its better to start your car (Career)at a slow speed than being idle.As the reccession will die the car will surely get its true speed.
